Atari has announced a bold move: the legendary publisher has acquired five dormant Ubisoft franchises and plans to bring them back for modern audiences.
The list includes Child of Eden, Cold Fear, Grow Home, Grow Up, and the post-apocalyptic survival title I Am Alive.
According to Atari, the goal is to ‘reintroduce iconic creations’ with updated publishing frameworks and releases across new platforms. Ubisoft’s VP of new business, Deborah Papiernik, noted that the initiative opens the door for both long-time fans to relive old memories and newcomers to discover these titles for the first time. Atari, known for its own deep gaming legacy, appears eager to breathe fresh life into overlooked projects.
The announcement sparked excitement across fan communities. Cold Fear, a survival horror game often remembered as an underrated alternative to Resident Evil, has fans hoping for at least a remaster, if not a full sequel. Meanwhile, the experimental exploration titles Grow Home and Grow Up are being celebrated for their quirky design and potential to shine again with renewed attention. There’s also cautious optimism for I Am Alive, a game that launched with big promises but fell short of its ambitious early trailers; many players hope Atari can finally deliver the version they imagined years ago.
Notably absent from the deal are fan-favorite franchises such as Rayman and Splinter Cell, leading to a mix of excitement and disappointment among the community. Still, this acquisition reinforces Atari’s growing role as a publisher willing to take chances on forgotten gems, especially as Ubisoft continues to face turbulence with layoffs, canceled projects, and pressure for its flagship franchises like Assassin’s Creed.
While Ubisoft focuses on high-profile partnerships with giants like Tencent and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Atari seems to be carving a different path – one that bets on nostalgia, cult classics, and the enduring value of underappreciated titles.

The I Am Alive trailer was way better than the game we got… hoping Atari can finally fix that mess
