Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will make its debut on Nintendo Switch 2 this December 2, 2025, marking the long-awaited arrival of the franchise on Nintendo’s next-generation handheld-hybrid system.

After more than a year of speculation, rumors, and leaks, the confirmation came via Ubisoft’s Fall Roadmap update video on YouTube, which not only revealed the release date but also outlined several major updates and gameplay enhancements for the title.

The Switch 2 version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises a fully optimized experience, tailored for the console’s improved hardware and portable playstyle. Ubisoft has teased that the new Advanced Parkour feature – a system designed to make freerunning smoother, more responsive, and visually dynamic – will be part of the update across all platforms, including Switch 2. Even without activating this optional mode, players will notice improvements in animations, transitions, and rooftop mobility that bring feudal Japan to life more vividly than ever before.

Alongside mechanical refinements, the game will also receive a fresh batch of free content updates throughout the year. These include additional story missions that expand the journey of the dual protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, as well as new Animus-based side quests designed to deepen the lore of the Assassin Brotherhood and its presence in Japan. Game Director Charles Benoit expressed enthusiasm about the port, stating: “We’re thrilled to bring Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Nintendo players. Whether you prefer stealthy infiltration as Naoe or direct confrontation as Yasuke, you can explore feudal Japan’s streets and rooftops – from your living room or on the go.”

However, fans hoping for the Claws of Awaji paid DLC right away will have to wait until 2026. The expansion will arrive later but will support cross-progression through Ubisoft Connect, allowing seamless save transfers between Switch 2 and other platforms. This means your progress in Shadows will travel with you – whether you’re playing on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or the new Nintendo console.

In line with Nintendo’s recent distribution policy, the physical edition of Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Switch 2 will come as a game-key card version, similar to other large-scale third-party releases. For Ubisoft, this launch carries additional significance – it will be the first title released under its newly established Vantage Studios label, which now houses the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six franchises. Although most of the development for Shadows was completed before the internal restructuring, this still marks the first official Vantage Studios release and a symbolic new chapter for the company’s flagship IP.

With Switch 2’s rumored performance boost and portability, this December launch could redefine how open-world stealth adventures play on handheld consoles. Ubisoft seems determined to make Assassin’s Creed Shadows not just another port, but a statement – that even the most ambitious historical epics can run, breathe, and shine on Nintendo’s new hardware.
