Ubisoft might be going through one of its toughest times, but Assassin’s Creed Shadows is giving the company something to smile about. According to data from Europe’s Game Sales Data firm, reported by The Game Business, Shadows is the best-selling new release across PC and consoles in Europe in 2025 so far.
It’s not the overall number one – EA Sports FC 25, launched last year, still holds that crown – but when it comes to this year’s new launches, Shadows leads the pack.
The title has outperformed heavyweights like Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Elden Ring: Nightreign, and the much-hyped Oblivion Remastered. In fact, the only new 2025 game that comes close is Split-Fiction. After that, Wilds and Mario Kart World round out the chasing group.
Among the top-20 selling games overall this year, only seven were actually released in 2025: Shadows, Split-Fiction, Wilds, Mario Kart World, Deliverance II, Oblivion Remastered, and Nightreign. The rest of the chart is dominated by long-lasting juggernauts like Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, and even Star Wars Battlefront II, which is enjoying a surprise resurgence nearly a decade after launch. Ubisoft’s own Rainbow Six: Siege has also climbed back thanks to its revamped Siege X edition.
Looking ahead, Shadows’ reign as the year’s top seller may be short-lived. With EA Sports FC 26 just around the corner – and major upcoming releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Battlefield 6, Borderlands 4, Ghost of Yotei, Pokémon Legends Z-A, and The Outer Worlds 2 – the second half of 2025 promises fierce competition. For now, though, Ubisoft can enjoy the victory: Shadows is not just another Assassin’s Creed installment, but the current benchmark for success in Europe this year.
