The ASRock X870 Livemixer WIFI is ASRock’s latest shot at the mainstream AM5 motherboard market, offering a blend of enthusiast-grade features at a reasonable $250 price point.
Three years after the AM5 platform’s debut, AMD has launched its second generation of AM5 chipsets under the 800-series banner – with the X870 sitting just below the flagship X870E, yet retaining most of the cutting-edge specs that gamers and content creators expect in 2025.
The X870 brings full USB4 support, PCIe Gen5 lanes for both GPUs and NVMe drives, and higher EXPO memory clock support – all out of the box. With Ryzen 9000 CPUs, you also get updated PBO and Curve Optimizer algorithms for more efficient overclocking. While the X870E doubles up on chipset dies for extra connectivity, the X870 keeps a single die configuration, slightly trimming I/O capacity without sacrificing headline features.
In testing, the ASRock X870 Livemixer WIFI proved itself as a reliable workhorse. Its VRM design handled Ryzen 9000 chips without breaking a sweat, delivering stable boost clocks under both gaming and productivity loads. Cooling was straightforward thanks to AM5’s backward compatibility with AM4 coolers, so existing setups can transition without extra cost. For storage, the primary M.2 slot runs full PCIe 5.0 speeds, making it future-proof for next-gen SSDs, while the board also offers plenty of SATA and USB options.
The AM5 socket (LGA 1718) is here to stay, with AMD committing to support until at least 2027, echoing the longevity that made AM4 so popular. For builders still on AM4, the X870 platform presents a solid reason to finally jump ship – especially with better memory speeds, full USB4, and Gen5 GPU/SSD readiness baked in.
Where the Livemixer shines is its mix of enthusiast-friendly features in a board that’s neither overpriced nor stripped down. Sure, it’s not the best fit for ultra-compact SFF builds due to chipset heat and size constraints, but for standard ATX rigs aiming for a long-term upgrade path, it’s an easy recommendation.
