Apple is reportedly preparing a new accessory for the upcoming iPhone 17 family: a magnetic Crossbody Strap. According to leaks, this strap will debut alongside the new iPhones on September 9 and is designed to work seamlessly with Apple’s next-generation cases, which are expected to feature special cutouts for it.
The strap itself uses a flexible metal core, making it magnetic along its full length.
Oppositely polarized magnetic rings at the ends lock together with notable strength, eliminating the need for traditional clips or hooks. This system should make attaching and detaching the strap effortless while ensuring a secure hold.
Made primarily of woven nylon – similar to the material used in Apple’s Sport Loop Bands – the strap may also come in a silicone option for added comfort and flexibility. Naturally, colors are expected to match the official iPhone 17 case lineup, keeping Apple’s familiar emphasis on coordinated design.
Production has reportedly already begun, which signals that Apple intends to release the Crossbody Strap as a launch accessory. While Apple fans may welcome the convenience of hands-free carrying, the concept has sparked debate. Some see it as a sleek update to old-school phone lanyards, while others criticize it as overpriced or environmentally questionable due to the use of magnets. In any case, it seems Apple is betting on style and convenience to turn the crossbody strap into the next must-have iPhone accessory.
