Apple Extends Free Satellite Service for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 Owners

Apple has once again decided to sweeten the deal for its users by extending free access to its satellite communication service for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 owners. First unveiled with the iPhone 14 lineup back in September 2022, this feature was initially promised free for two years.

That offer was later prolonged in late 2023, and now, following the reveal of the brand-new iPhone 17 series, Apple is stretching the trial period even further.

According to Apple’s official newsroom update, customers who activated an iPhone 14 or iPhone 15 in supported regions before September 9, 2025, at 12 a.m. PT will get another year of complimentary satellite access. This means early adopters can rely on the service at no cost until mid-September 2026, giving them added peace of mind when traveling or living in areas without reliable cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.

Apple’s satellite communication system has been a critical safety tool since its introduction. The feature allows users to connect their iPhones directly to satellites orbiting the Earth to send emergency texts, request roadside help, share their real-time location, and even message loved ones when off-grid. For adventurers, rural residents, and frequent travelers, this service represents a genuine lifeline in situations where traditional connectivity simply fails.

The backbone of the service is powered by Globalstar’s satellite network, although coverage is not universal. Apple clarifies that the feature is not available everywhere it sells iPhones, with exclusions including Armenia, Belarus, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Russia. Still, its gradual expansion across multiple markets highlights Apple’s ambition to set a new standard for mobile communication and safety.
