Google is preparing to improve Android’s backup system with new options that could finally cover more of your files.
An APK teardown of the Google Play Services beta (version 26.32.31) has revealed strings hinting at upcoming features that may let users select additional folders for cloud backup.
At the moment, automatic backups mostly include photos, videos, app data, and settings. However, important locations like the Downloads folder are excluded, leaving users with gaps in their data protection. The new code suggests that Google may soon allow users to back up their Downloads folder – and possibly others – directly to Google Drive.
Another string spotted in the code mentions “documents,” which could indicate that the update will also support certain file types, rather than just entire folders. While details remain unconfirmed, these signs strongly suggest Google is working to expand Android backup flexibility.
If this update rolls out, Android users could finally have more control over what gets saved, ensuring that everyday files are less likely to be lost. For now, we’ll need to wait for official confirmation from Google, but the clues are already pointing toward a much more powerful backup system.
