Anchor: Survive the Apocalypse Beneath the Waves in Fearem’s New Game

Anchor, the latest project from indie developer Fearem, dives headfirst into the depths of a flooded Earth where survival is as fragile as the air in your oxygen tank.

Blending the gritty, player-driven survival elements of Rust with the haunting underwater beauty of Subnautica, Anchor paints a vivid picture of humanity’s desperate attempt to rebuild beneath the waves after a nuclear apocalypse leaves the surface uninhabitable.

In this world, society has crumbled, and the ocean has become both sanctuary and prison. Players will find themselves scavenging sunken wrecks, building shelters on the seafloor, and constantly fighting against the crushing pressure, hunger, and lack of breathable air. Each dive is a gamble – one wrong move, and you could end up drifting into the jaws of a shark or trapped in a collapsing underwater cave.

Anchor’s multiplayer servers can host up to 150 players, offering the choice to cooperate with others in constructing undersea colonies or to roam solo, surviving off whatever scraps and oxygen you can find. For those who prefer solitude over chaos, the developers are also adding PvE modes that remove player hostility, allowing for a more methodical, exploration-driven experience.

Unlike Subnautica’s alien setting, Anchor is firmly rooted in Earth’s oceans, with familiar marine life and ecosystems reshaped by radiation and human intervention. Fearem promises dynamic aquatic fauna – predators, scavengers, and even creatures that can help or hinder survival depending on how players interact with their environment.

Currently planned for PC release, Anchor has yet to confirm whether it will surface on consoles. Still, anticipation is building as fans hope for a playable demo at an upcoming Steam Next Fest or a surprise early access drop. Until then, players will have to wait to find out whether they can master the deep – or become just another meal in the food chain.
