German retailer Mindfactory’s latest sales stats show AMD absolutely dominating the motherboard market, with the AM5 platform taking a commanding 73% share of total shipments.
Powered by the roaring success of Ryzen 9000 and 7000 series CPUs, AMD motherboards have far outsold Intel’s offerings, leaving Intel struggling to even make a dent in the charts.
In the past week alone, Mindfactory shipped 2,005 AM5 boards, with the older AM4 still holding second place at 470 units. Intel’s LGA 1700 trailed far behind with 185 units, while the newer LGA 1851 barely registered with 70 units sold. This trend reflects a broader global shift – AMD now holds close to 90% of the market share in many regions, a result of consistently strong performance and consumer trust built since the AM4 era.
MSI has emerged as the top motherboard brand, accounting for nearly half of all units sold (1,185 boards, or 43.4%), followed by ASRock at 30.6%. The star of the show remains the B650 chipset, favored for its broad compatibility with Ryzen 7000 and 9000 CPUs, attractive pricing, and strong feature set. Its upgraded sibling, the B850, is also popular thanks to PCIe 5.0 GPU support and future-proofing without the premium price of X870E boards. Both allow overclocking and modern connectivity, making them a sweet spot for gamers and PC builders who want performance without breaking the bank.
The shift to AM5 also marks a near-complete transition to DDR5 memory, with roughly 80% of all boards sold now supporting DDR5 DIMMs. ATX remains the dominant form factor, while micro-ATX continues to attract compact build enthusiasts.
Ultimately, AMD’s motherboards generated nearly 10 times the revenue of Intel’s last week, underscoring how the market has swung decisively in AMD’s favor – a position built on competitive pricing, wide compatibility, and strong gaming performance.
