Oppo A6x 4G and 5G: big-battery budget phones with 120Hz screens

Oppo has quietly expanded its affordable A-series with a new pair of big-battery phones called the Oppo A6x, offered in separate 4G and 5G versions. On paper they look almost identical, but under the hood and at the charging brick they take very different paths, trying to cover both ultra-budget buyers and those who want future-proof connectivity on the cheap.

The headline combo is simple: both Oppo A6x models bring a large 6.75-inch LCD with HD+ resolution, a fast 120 Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and gaming, and peak brightness up to 1,125 nits in high-brightness mode.

Oppo also adds GloveTouch, so the panel remains usable with light gloves – handy for commuters and colder climates despite the phone’s budget positioning.

Where the two variants really split is the chipset. The Oppo A6x 4G (CPH2819) relies on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 685, a mid-range 6 nm chip that manufacturers clearly refuse to retire; it keeps reappearing in 2024 phones because it is cheap, efficient and good enough for social apps and casual gaming. The Oppo A6x 5G (CPH2823), meanwhile, jumps to MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300, bringing integrated 5G support and a little more headroom for multitasking.

The camera hardware is intentionally simple. On the back you get a 13 MP main camera aimed at everyday shots for social media, while selfies are handled by a 5 MP front shooter. The 4G model is officially listed with an extra monochrome camera, although Oppo keeps quiet about the exact secondary setup on the 5G variant, suggesting that photography is not the main selling point here.

Battery life is far more central to the A6x story. Both phones share a huge 6,500 mAh cell and support 5 W reverse wired charging, letting you top up accessories in a pinch. The 5G model has the clear advantage at the wall plug with 45 W fast charging, whereas the 4G version sticks to basic charging speeds – a noticeable compromise if you hate waiting for a massive battery to refill.

Despite the low price, Oppo includes plenty of quality-of-life extras: ColorOS 15 out of the box, a side-mounted fingerprint reader integrated into the power button, USB-C, a classic 3.5 mm headphone jack, and IP64 protection against dust and splashes. The overall design is clean and flat-sided, and early reactions already praise the look, even if the display bezels are not perfectly symmetrical.

Storage and RAM options are tuned for budget shoppers. The Oppo A6x 4G ships in Ice Blue and Plum Purple with three configurations: 4 GB/64 GB, 4 GB/128 GB and 6 GB/256 GB. In Malaysia, the base 4/64 GB trim is listed at RM399 on Oppo’s official website, positioning it as an entry-level device with an oversized battery and modern screen.

The Oppo A6x 5G keeps the same base memory options but tops out at 6 GB/128 GB. It comes in Ice Blue and Olive Green and is available in India through Oppo’s online store, Amazon.in, Flipkart and major retail outlets. Pricing is set at INR 12,499 for 4/64 GB, INR 13,499 for 4/128 GB and INR 14,999 for 6/128 GB, putting it into the hotly contested lower mid-range 5G segment.

Taken together, the Oppo A6x 4G and 5G give budget-conscious buyers a choice between maximum value and faster connectivity. If you care more about endurance and price than raw power or flagship-level cameras, this quietly launched duo could be one of the more practical big-battery options to watch in 2024.
