vivo has unveiled the Y500 Pro, a midrange phone that leans into big-battery endurance and headline camera hardware while making a few calculated trade-offs.
If you are comparing it to the Y400 Pro, think of the Y500 Pro as an evolution with tougher durability, a larger power pack, and a sharper main camera – plus a small speed bump under the hood.
Performance and memory
The Y500 Pro is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400. It is a close relative of the Dimensity 7300 used in the Y400 Pro, but clocked 100 MHz higher, delivering a modest lift in day-to-day responsiveness and sustained gaming. vivo pairs the chip with either 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM. That 12 GB option is new to this class and gives heavy multitaskers more headroom for apps, maps, socials, and background services.
Storage change: the one step back
Unlike its predecessor’s UFS 3.1 storage, the Y500 Pro moves to UFS 2.2. You will still get solid reliability, but app installs and large file transfers will be slower than on the Y400 Pro. For most casual users the difference shows up in fewer “instant” loads rather than in overall usability, yet it is clearly a concession in an otherwise forward-leaning spec sheet.
Display and protection
Up front sits a 6.67-inch AMOLED with a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate and Diamond Shield glass. The panel is slightly smaller than the Y400 Pro’s 6.77-inch display and the phone is a touch heavier overall, but the trade nets meaningfully better ruggedization: the Y500 Pro carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings. In plain terms, it is resistant to dust, immersion, and high-pressure water jets, and vivo says the chassis is more drop-resistant with a national standard reliability certification to back it up.
Battery and charging
Endurance is the headline upgrade. The battery climbs to 7,000 mAh – about 22% larger than before – while retaining brisk 90 W wired charging. That combination targets all-day power users, travelers, and gamers who don’t want to hunt for outlets. Bigger cell, same fast top-ups.
Cameras
The single rear module jumps to 200 MP and uses a larger 1/1.56-inch sensor, capturing more light and finer detail for both daylight and indoor scenes. Expect crisper crops and cleaner night shots compared to the Y400 Pro. On the front, vivo keeps the familiar 32 MP f/2.5 selfie camera – reliable, sharp, and unchanged.
Design, colors, and configurations
The Y500 Pro ships in four finishes: Auspicious Cloud, Light Green, Soft Powder, and Titanium Black. Storage and RAM tiers are straightforward and priced aggressively in China:
- 8/128 GB: CNY 1,799 (≈ €218; INR 22,400)
- 8/256 GB: CNY 1,999 (≈ €242; INR 24,900)
- 12/256 GB: CNY 2,299 (≈ €280; INR 28,600)
- 12/512 GB: CNY 2,599 (≈ €315; INR 32,300)
Early verdict
vivo’s Y500 Pro is a classic case of prioritization. You get tougher build, class-leading battery capacity, a higher-resolution primary camera with a bigger sensor, and optional 12 GB RAM. In return, you accept the shift to UFS 2.2 and a slightly smaller display. For buyers who value stamina, durability, and camera detail over the fastest storage speeds, this is a well-balanced upgrade over the Y400 Pro.

200MP on a budget Y-series is wild. Hope the processing keeps up
Would’ve preferred the bigger screen from Y400 Pro, but I’ll take the battery trade
Finally IP69 on a midranger. My clumsy hands approve 🙌
