Stray, the atmospheric cat adventure from French studio BlueTwelve, appears to be returning as the flagship PlayStation Plus Essential title for November 2025, according to a new leak from Dealabs’ consistently accurate insider, billbil-kun.
The feline favorite, originally released in 2022, will reportedly be available for download starting November 4, 2025, across PS4 and PS5 for all tiers – Essential, Extra, and Premium.
This isn’t the first time Stray has padded its way into the PS Plus lineup. Back in 2022, it made headlines as a day-one PS Plus Extra launch title, charming players with its melancholic world of flickering neon signs, crumbling towers, and chatty droids. Players control a nameless stray cat wandering through the remnants of a forgotten cybercity, solving environmental puzzles and evading strange, flesh-eating creatures. Beyond its adorable premise, the game tells a surprisingly emotional story about isolation, companionship, and survival in a world devoid of humans.
The game received high praise on release – IGN rated it 8/10, calling it “a delightful cat-based platforming adventure in a cyberpunk world worth exploring.” Since then, Stray has expanded beyond the PlayStation ecosystem, releasing on Xbox and Nintendo Switch, and even inspiring an upcoming animated film by Annapurna Animation. However, many PS Plus subscribers have expressed mixed feelings about its apparent return, with some calling it a ‘repeat release’ rather than a new offering worthy of the ‘flagship’ label.
For players who missed it the first time, this reappearance might be a chance to experience one of the most visually striking indie games in recent memory. For others, it raises questions about Sony’s strategy for PS Plus Essential – is the company leaning on nostalgia and proven hits instead of delivering fresh surprises? The official confirmation from Sony is expected on Wednesday, October 29, when the full lineup for November will be revealed.
Regardless of the repetition debate, Stray remains one of the most memorable indie releases of the past decade – a quiet, emotional journey told through the eyes of a cat, once again ready to curl up in the hearts (and libraries) of PlayStation fans.
