They claim that Apple’s engineers have been testing prototype sensors using this architecture in partnership with select suppliers. Interestingly, Chinese giants Huawei and Xiaomi are reportedly exploring similar implementations, suggesting LOFIC might become the next big race in smartphone imaging. However, Samsung – currently one of Apple’s biggest rivals in camera sensor production – appears to be lagging behind with no immediate plans to deploy this tech. That absence could cost Samsung dearly if Apple and Sony push LOFIC into mass production first.
