Luigi’s Mansion Returns: The GameCube Ghost-Hunting Classic Arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 This Halloween

Nintendo has chosen the perfect season for a chilling comeback – Luigi’s Mansion, the beloved GameCube launch title from 2001, is officially joining the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library on October 30. Just in time for Halloween, this hauntingly humorous classic completes the entire Luigi’s Mansion trilogy on the Nintendo Switch 2, uniting the original with Luigi’s Mansion 2 (Dark Moon) and Luigi’s Mansion 3 under one console for the first time.

When Luigi’s Mansion first launched, it introduced a more timid, comical side of Luigi. The story begins with the green-clad plumber winning a mysterious mansion that turns out to be haunted. What starts as a dream quickly becomes a nightmare as Mario vanishes within its ghostly halls, forcing Luigi to overcome his fears and capture mischievous Boos and ghouls using Professor E. Gadd’s Poltergust vacuum. The game mixed eerie atmosphere with slapstick charm, setting a tone that became uniquely Luigi’s own.

While Nintendo hasn’t yet revealed how the Switch 2 version will take advantage of the console’s newest features – such as advanced motion and rumored mouse controls – fans can expect updated visuals, smoother gameplay, and possibly some quality-of-life tweaks.
