Samsung has officially lifted the curtain on Project Moohan, its long-awaited XR (Extended Reality) headset that has been quietly developing for years. While enthusiasts had a brief glimpse of the device at CES, today marks its full and formal debut.
The product, expected to hit the market as the Galaxy XR, represents Samsung’s bold step back into the immersive tech arena, blending virtual and augmented reality into one seamless platform.
The livestreamed launch, set for 2 AM UTC (10 PM ET), promises a deep dive into the hardware and ecosystem built around this new generation of mixed-reality experiences. Under the hood, the Galaxy XR runs on Google’s Android XR OS – an operating system purpose-built for spatial computing and cross-device adaptability – and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, ensuring top-tier graphics, low latency, and energy-efficient performance.
Samsung says that Android XR is designed to scale across multiple form factors, hinting at a broader strategy that goes beyond the headset itself. Insiders have reported that the company is developing related devices, including smart glasses and compact wearable displays under codenames Project Haean and Project Jinju. Although these won’t make an appearance today, the livestream may tease Samsung’s long-term vision for a fully connected ecosystem that merges the physical and digital worlds more fluidly than ever.
For Samsung, Project Moohan marks not only a hardware milestone but also a software and ecosystem commitment – one that could rival Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest line. With Android XR’s adaptability, the Galaxy XR may serve as the foundation for a new family of immersive tools – from entertainment and productivity to communication and creative exploration. All eyes are now on the livestream, where Samsung is expected to reveal how far its XR ambitions truly extend.
