Battlefield 6 Dev Overhauls XP Progression, Tackles Server Farms, and Promises a Fairer Battlefield
Battlefield Studios is taking major steps to rebuild trust and satisfaction among Battlefield 6 players after a wave of complaints about slow progression and server misuse. Following the game’s explosive launch, the developer released a detailed update addressing how experience (XP) is earned, how servers are used, and what’s next for players as the studio prepares for Season 1.
Since day one, fans have voiced frustration with the grind-heavy nature of unlocking weapons, attachments, and gadgets. Many argued that the system favored endless repetition over genuine skill. Battlefield Studios responded directly, confirming that XP progression will be “smoother and more rewarding” while maintaining the sense of achievement tied to mastering weapons and completing milestones. The goal, the team says, is to make each session feel worthwhile – not a chore.
“We know progression is an important part of feeling rewarded for your time on the battlefield,” the studio said in a statement. “Our immediate focus is on making those unlocks feel more natural, less punishing, and more aligned with your playstyle.”
However, the XP debate runs deeper than just leveling speed. A growing number of players have been using custom community servers in the Portal mode to farm XP – essentially setting up matches designed to inflate stats by defeating bots rather than engaging in real competition. While this gave players a shortcut to unlocks, it also created chaos for others trying to access legitimate community experiences.
Battlefield Studios admitted that XP farming had overwhelmed server capacity. “After reviewing data, we discovered that many of our community servers were used primarily for XP farming rather than real play,” the developer explained. “This made it harder for players to find authentic, creative matches to enjoy with others.”
The developer reaffirmed that the Experiences in the Community section – a defining feature of Battlefield 6 – was built to encourage creativity and collaboration. To preserve that spirit, the team will implement backend changes to limit XP farms from dominating the server list. Every experience, whether custom or verified, will need to be republished after the update, ensuring that new player-made modes meet updated standards.
The studio also promised ongoing fixes to improve gameplay stability and fairness. Issues like weapon bloom, visibility problems, and vehicle spawning bugs are under review, with hotfixes expected “within the week, or possibly sooner.” It’s part of a broader effort to keep players engaged during the lead-up to Season 1, which will include deeper progression tuning, improved server management, and better anti-cheat detection.
Players are cautiously optimistic. Some appreciate that the team is listening at last, while others are skeptical that tweaks will address larger concerns like imbalanced challenges or poor server stability. Tasks like the infamous “300 suppressions” machine gun challenge and the “3k repair in one life” requirement have drawn particular ire, with players calling them unrealistic and frustrating.
Still, Battlefield Studios seems committed to a turnaround. The update concludes with a promise to keep communication open and feedback-driven: “This is just the start. As we move toward Season 1, expect more refinements that make Battlefield feel more rewarding, responsive, and fun to play.”
For now, players are urged to republish their servers once the maintenance window ends and prepare for a more balanced progression system. Whether these changes can restore Battlefield 6’s community trust will depend on how quickly – and fairly – the studio delivers on its promises.

Nice to see XP farms getting nuked. Those servers were killing real matches
That 300 suppressions challenge is pure madness. Whoever designed that hates fun 😂
All good, but bring back proper dedicated servers already. Enough of this cap
Still waiting for them to fix the repair challenge… I swear I’ve done 2.9k in one life and still didn’t get it 😩
