Samsung Cancels Galaxy S26 Edge After Disappointing S25 Sales

Samsung’s once-promising slim flagship experiment appears to have reached its quiet end. Reports now suggest that the Galaxy S26 Edge has been officially canceled, following disappointing sales of its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Edge. According to insider sources and South Korean outlet Newspim, Samsung has decided to pull the plug on its ultra-thin smartphone line and shift focus back to the more traditional ‘Plus’ model that fans have come to expect.

The Galaxy S25 Edge was meant to represent Samsung’s sleek future – a refined, lightweight device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and 12GB of RAM.

It was a technical marvel on paper: slim bezels, premium display, and a 200MP camera that could, under ideal conditions, outperform even Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro series. Yet despite that, consumers weren’t convinced. While it offered a 40% discount at $729 for the 512GB model, it couldn’t generate the enthusiasm needed to sustain its line.

The problem wasn’t performance – reviewers even noted that the S25 Edge beat the iPhone Air in battery drain tests – but practicality. In an era when buyers prioritize durability, battery life, and value, the Edge’s delicate frame and limited endurance made it less appealing. Many users simply didn’t want a phone that required an extra case just to survive a normal day. Ironically, Samsung’s effort to make phones thinner clashed with market demand for devices that could last longer and withstand more.

According to well-known leakers @chunvn8888 and @UniverseIce, development on the Galaxy S26 Edge has been halted indefinitely, indirectly affecting the timeline for the Galaxy S26 Pro and S26 Plus. However, the Galaxy S26 Ultra remains unaffected and continues to progress smoothly. That’s unsurprising – the Ultra has consistently been the most profitable and best-selling model in Samsung’s lineup, offering the mix of power and endurance users crave.

Several analysts argue that the cancellation was inevitable. Samsung, after all, has been recalibrating its flagship strategy in response to shifting consumer behavior. Buyers no longer flock to ‘thinness’ or futuristic aesthetics; instead, they want longevity, consistent updates, and a premium experience that justifies the cost. In that sense, the Galaxy S26 Plus – a more balanced and durable device – is expected to fill the void left by the Edge.

Critics also point to marketing missteps. The S25 Edge was barely promoted – it appeared briefly during Samsung’s spring launch event but was never meaningfully showcased. Many customers didn’t even know it existed. Without strong retail visibility or carrier partnerships, it stood little chance against Apple’s heavily marketed iPhone Air and the more familiar Galaxy Ultra models.

As one source close to the company remarked, “You can’t sell a phone no one knows about.” The S25 Edge’s fate may serve as a warning for other brands experimenting with ultra-slim phones: specs alone don’t sell. Accessibility, durability, and awareness do.

So what’s next for Samsung? Insiders claim that the company will streamline its flagship lineup – focusing on the Galaxy S26 Pro, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra. The Edge name, once synonymous with innovation, may now be quietly retired. Whether Apple’s iPhone Air will face a similar fate remains to be seen, but for now, Samsung’s experiment with thinness has ended with a sobering realization: the market has moved on.

They spent all this time trying to copy Apple’s thin design instead of focusing on real use

So basically, make it thicker, give it battery, call it Ultra. Profit. 😂

Makes sense, no one asked for paper-thin phones lol. I’d rather have a battery that lasts more than a day!
