Samsung has once again expanded its M-series lineup in India with the introduction of the Galaxy M17, a phone that continues the brand’s now-familiar rebadging tradition. Essentially, the M17 is a rebranded version of the Galaxy F17, which itself was a variant of the Galaxy A17.
This makes it the third iteration of the same base design – but Samsung hopes that its pricing and availability will make it more appealing to Indian consumers looking for a balanced mid-range device.
The Galaxy M17 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, delivering vivid colors and smooth visuals. Under the hood, it’s powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1330 chipset, paired with 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of RAM options and 128GB of internal storage. While the 4GB model is priced at INR 12,499 (around $141), many tech enthusiasts question its adequacy for Android 15 and future updates. The higher trims – 6GB for INR 13,999 and 8GB for INR 15,499 – are positioned to offer a better multitasking experience.
On the back, the phone sports a 50MP main camera, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP depth sensor, offering decent flexibility for everyday photography. The 5,000mAh battery supports 25W wired charging, ensuring solid endurance and quick top-ups. It ships with One UI 7.0 based on Android 15 and promises up to six years of software and security updates – an impressive commitment in this price range.
Available in Moonlight Silver and Sapphire Black, the Galaxy M17 will officially go on open sale starting October 13 through Samsung India’s website and retail partners. While the device offers reliable specs, many fans feel Samsung is treading on repetitive ground, releasing near-identical models with new names rather than introducing fresh innovations.
Still, for buyers looking for a Samsung experience under INR 13,000, the Galaxy M17 might just hit the sweet spot – even if it feels like déjà vu for longtime Galaxy followers.
