Samsung’s upcoming One UI 8.5 update might finally give Galaxy users a weapon long enjoyed by Google Pixel owners: a fully automatic call screening system designed to stop spam and scam calls before they ever reach you. The feature, currently under development, is expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 series early next year, introducing smarter ways to handle unwanted calls using AI-driven voice interaction and live transcription.
Until now, Samsung users have relied on Bixby Text Call, which can screen calls manually when activated during an incoming voice call.
It allows you to see the caller’s message as text and respond by typing. However, this process still requires manual intervention. According to an APK teardown by Android Authority, One UI 8.5 will elevate this capability by adding full automation – meaning your phone can answer and interact with unknown callers entirely on its own, much like the Pixel’s Call Screen feature powered by Google Assistant.
The new feature appears to leverage artificial intelligence to understand the caller’s intent, generate contextually relevant responses, and show both sides of the exchange via real-time voice-to-text transcription on your screen. This makes it easier to decide whether to pick up, hang up, or block the number permanently. It’s not just a convenience – it’s a significant privacy and safety upgrade for those tired of endless telemarketing or phishing calls.
Samsung’s implementation also seems to offer flexible control. Users may be able to choose between screening all unknown calls, only known spam or scam numbers, or even applying exceptions to specific contacts. Korean users might get even more granular options, reflecting Samsung’s tradition of adding region-specific features that cater to local calling habits.
While details about global availability are still unclear, it’s safe to assume Samsung will first test the feature in select regions and expand support gradually as it fine-tunes language models and response accuracy. Once One UI 8.5 rolls out alongside the Galaxy S26 lineup, Galaxy users could finally enjoy a Pixel-level defense against spam calls – all powered by Samsung’s growing focus on AI-driven user experiences.
