Vampire Survivors, the indie phenomenon that took the gaming world by storm, is finally getting the one thing fans have been jokingly begging for: proper online co-op. Developer Poncle dropped the surprise announcement via a cheeky new trailer, confirming that four-player online multiplayer is coming to PC and consoles this autumn.
It’s not just a simple feature drop either – the update is the first of five planned major updates that will roll out over the coming weeks, marking a busy and exciting season for survivors everywhere.
The reveal trailer opens with five mysterious cards, each marked with a question mark. The first card flips over to reveal a big number “1,” the familiar Vampire Survivors logo, and the single word: “Online.” A quick transition follows to a nostalgic Windows 97-style desktop, where a mouse cursor hovers over a file labeled “VS_Online.exe.” Then a message appears: “Press here for online.” The moment feels like Poncle poking fun at the long-running meme that all they had to do was press a button to make online play work – and they finally did.
According to the trailer’s description, the update will let players freely roam stages together, whether helping friends navigate chaotic levels like Astral Stair or daring one another to survive the infamous Room 1665. But just because there are more survivors doesn’t mean it’ll be easier. In fact, Poncle teases that cooperation might make things even more hectic – which fits perfectly with the game’s brand of delightful chaos.
Poncle also promises more surprises in the coming weeks. Each of the five cards represents a mystery update, with the studio hinting, “Autumn is our time to shine.” Fans are now speculating wildly about what the remaining cards might reveal – from new stages and relics to long-requested modes. Some even joke that maybe, just maybe, we’ll finally get an actual vampire in Vampire Survivors.
The award-winning title, which famously beat out Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarök to win Best Game at the 2023 BAFTA Game Awards, continues to evolve in ways few expected. If the upcoming updates keep this pace, Vampire Survivors might be heading for one of its most content-packed seasons yet – and this time, you won’t have to face the bullet-hell madness alone.
