The tech world has been buzzing with speculation about the next big leap from OnePlus, and now the company has given fans plenty to talk about.
At Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in China, OnePlus finally confirmed what many leaks had hinted at: the upcoming flagship will be called the OnePlus 15, and it will be the first smartphone to launch with the highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.
This announcement cements OnePlus as a brand eager to be at the forefront of hardware innovation. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected to deliver not only raw processing power but also more efficient performance, better AI integration, and enhanced gaming capabilities. If early benchmarks hold true, it could set a new standard for Android flagships heading into 2025.
During the event, Li Jie, president of OnePlus China, showcased a sleek black prototype of the OnePlus 15. Interestingly, its overall design appears closer to the recently launched OnePlus 13T than its direct predecessor, the OnePlus 13. That subtle design choice suggests the company is aiming for consistency across its product line, while still leaving room for the OnePlus 15 to stand out thanks to its internals.
On the display front, OnePlus officially confirmed that the new flagship will feature a 165Hz panel. While the company hasn’t yet disclosed size or resolution details, earlier reports pointed to a 6.78-inch display with 1.5K resolution – a slight departure from the sharper 2K panel used in the OnePlus 13. Even with a lower resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate could appeal strongly to gamers and heavy multitaskers looking for extreme fluidity in animations and gameplay.
Li Jie later emphasized the display’s near bezel-less design by sharing images of the phone’s front. According to his post, the bezels will measure only 1.15mm on all sides, giving the device an immersive, chin-free appearance that rivals premium offerings from Samsung and Apple.
Of course, the most eye-catching rumor still surrounds the battery and charging system. Whispers from industry insiders suggest a massive 7,000 mAh battery paired with blistering 120W wired charging. If true, the OnePlus 15 would surpass even the rumored Galaxy S26 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro Max capacities. Such a combination could make battery anxiety a thing of the past while enabling rapid top-ups that keep the device ready for long days of heavy use.
As always, speculation should be met with cautious optimism until official details are released. Still, based on what we know, the OnePlus 15 looks positioned to be one of the most formidable challengers in the flagship market this year. From the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 to its futuristic display and potentially groundbreaking battery setup, it’s shaping up to be a phone worth watching closely.
The big question now is not whether the OnePlus 15 will impress – it almost certainly will – but whether it can maintain that wow factor in real-world use once it finally lands in consumers’ hands.
