Rumors from the Chinese tech sphere suggest that Honor is preparing to go all-in on massive camera specs, with 200MP sensors becoming standard across its premium lineup. According to the often-reliable Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Honor plans to equip both its Magic8 series flagships and the upcoming Magic V6 foldable with 200MP main cameras.

The strategy seems clear: make megapixels the headline feature of 2025 devices, much like how brands once leaned heavily on charging speed or display refresh rates.

The rumored Magic8 Ultra might take things even further with a 200MP periscope telephoto lens. Honor is said to have ordered a significant batch of 200MP sensors, hinting at long-term commitment to this path. But whether this translates into real photographic improvements is up for debate. Many enthusiasts argue that while higher megapixel counts look impressive on paper, they aren’t the sole factor in capturing great images. Sensor size, lens aperture, image processing, and software tuning often matter far more than sheer pixel numbers.

Some users point out that unless Honor pairs these 200MP sensors with larger hardware – like the near 1-inch type setups seen on Xiaomi’s Ultra models – the benefits may be limited. For smaller sensors, diffraction and pixel-binning constraints mean that jumping from 50MP to 200MP offers only marginal gains. Others remain skeptical of Honor’s after-sales support, especially in markets like Spain, where customers feel abandoned when issues arise. The hardware may look competitive on spec sheets, but service and software matter just as much for long-term satisfaction.

Still, there is excitement. If the main sensor on the Magic V6 or Magic8 Ultra lands around 1/1.4”, it could rival the likes of the OnePlus 13 in pure hardware muscle. Honor has already shown it can produce sleek foldables, with the Magic V5 launching internationally this summer after its initial debut in China. The brand has confirmed that the Magic8 series will arrive between October and December, with some whispers pointing to an October unveiling. The big question is whether Honor can balance its obsession with numbers against the real-world demands of photography enthusiasts who want more than just megapixel bragging rights.

dang if Honor puts a 1/1.4” sensor in there, it could beat OnePlus 13. At least hardware wise
