Samsung has taken Galaxy S25 Edge owners by surprise with the release of the highly anticipated One UI 8 software, based on Android 16. While the company typically rolls out its major stable updates to core models like the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra before expanding to side models, this time the Edge edition is receiving the update earlier than expected, straight alongside the flagship trio.
This marks an unusual but welcome move from Samsung, especially considering the Edge variant wasn’t part of the original beta testing cycle.
When Samsung launched the One UI 8 Beta Program in May, it opened enrollment for the Galaxy S25 series but deliberately excluded the Edge. The reasoning was simple: the phone had only just hit the shelves, and historically, Samsung doesn’t test beta firmware on non-core editions, such as Fan Edition or Edge devices. That decision made today’s release particularly surprising. Users who might have expected a long wait for the stable firmware now find themselves on the same footing as those using the pricier Ultra or the standard S25.
At launch, the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S25 Edge has gone live in South Korea, weighing in at a hefty 3.4GB and shipping under firmware version S937NKSU2BYI3. According to screenshots shared by early adopters, the package is rolling out smoothly. Typically, Samsung follows a predictable global release pattern, beginning with its home market before expanding internationally within a matter of days. For those outside Korea, the update should be arriving imminently. Owners can check availability by heading to Settings → Software update → Download and install.
As for what One UI 8 brings, it may not be as transformative as last year’s One UI 7, but it refines nearly every aspect of the experience. Users can expect a cleaner interface with reworked icons and UI elements, updated system apps, and a smoother multitasking flow. Productivity enhancements focus on streamlined communications, deeper integration with Samsung’s ecosystem, and more automation options. Camera and imaging tools receive incremental boosts in AI-assisted features and editing tools, while Samsung Health gets improved fitness tracking metrics. Privacy and security remain a cornerstone, with new tools to give users more control over data permissions, alongside fresh accessibility options to make the system more inclusive.
The Galaxy S25 Edge, already praised for its curved-edge display and premium build, now gains a much-needed software boost that brings it into alignment with the rest of the S25 family. For many buyers, this timely update solidifies Samsung’s commitment to its entire S25 lineup, rather than treating the Edge as an afterthought.
