Samsung has just rolled out the second beta of its upcoming Android 16-based interface, One UI 8.0, for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. The update is currently available to users in South Korea, but as history shows, a wider release to other regions is expected to follow shortly.
This marks an important step in Samsung’s beta program, as Beta 2 usually refines stability and fixes critical bugs identified in the first round of testing.
For those who might not be following closely, One UI 8 is Samsung’s customized take on Android 16, designed to maximize productivity, optimize performance, and introduce features tailored for foldable devices. With phones like the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 pushing the boundaries of multitasking and portability, each iteration of One UI plays a big role in shaping the user experience.
Firmware version ZYI6 (spotted by Tarun Vats) introduces several important bug fixes rather than flashy new features. These adjustments, while less glamorous than headline-grabbing features, are essential to ensuring a smooth and reliable system. Samsung’s official changelog lists four key fixes:
- Resolved a rare but critical bug where the phone could unexpectedly reset during use.
- Addressed an issue with Samsung DeX where settings weren’t retained after upgrading to One UI 8.
- Fixed synchronization problems with the Galaxy Watch 7’s weather app, which previously failed to update in real time.
- Corrected a multi-window error that forced closures when running the camera inside a KakaoTalk chat room.
Each of these fixes targets core areas – stability, continuity, integration with the broader Samsung ecosystem, and foldable-specific multitasking. For example, maintaining DeX configurations is particularly relevant for power users who rely on Samsung’s desktop mode for work. Meanwhile, the multi-window fix improves reliability for those who juggle apps in split-screen while still using the camera, one of the hallmark advantages of foldables.
Although new visual changes or feature rollouts aren’t part of this beta, the improvements represent Samsung’s careful balancing act: refining under-the-hood processes before expanding One UI 8 to more users worldwide. The company is expected to expand the rollout beyond Korea in the coming days or weeks, allowing a larger pool of testers to experience the refinements before the official stable release.
If you own a Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Flip 5 and are part of the beta program, you can update by navigating to Settings → Software update → Download and install. Early adopters who join this program not only gain early access but also help Samsung polish the software by reporting bugs, making them an integral part of the development cycle.
