CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 announcement scheduled for September 4 is not about a new patch or additional downloadable content. Fans speculating on social media hoped for news of fresh gameplay updates or even another DLC expansion, but according to Senior Community Manager Amelia “Lilayah,” those expectations should be tempered.
She made it clear that no new DLC is currently in development, reinforcing what many already suspected: Cyberpunk 2077 is unlikely to see any major content updates in the near future.
The announcement was teased through an in-universe advertisement from the New United States of America, the fictional governing power that includes Night City. This piece of promotional storytelling called for “brave netrunners” to take part in a recruitment test, hinting at a larger cybersecurity challenge that ties into the game’s lore. While the message was cryptic, it sparked speculation across the community about whether this could signal the beginning of a community-driven event or perhaps a new type of interactive project that blends real-world participation with the game’s cyberpunk narrative.
Importantly, the announcement is not connected to Project Orion, the official sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which CD Projekt has previously stated is still years away from release. Instead, the cryptic teaser suggests a smaller initiative, perhaps a narrative-driven ARG (alternate reality game) or a limited-time event designed to keep the player base engaged without delivering traditional expansions. This type of world-building exercise would not be new for CD Projekt, who has used immersive storytelling techniques to keep interest alive between major releases.
Whatever the reveal may be, fans will not have to wait long, as September 4 is just around the corner. Until then, speculation will continue to swirl about whether this is simply clever marketing, a hint at new community content, or a signal of some experimental direction the studio wants to test. For now, what’s certain is that Cyberpunk 2077 remains playable across PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch 2, ensuring its presence across nearly every major platform as CD Projekt looks toward the franchise’s future.
