Stray Kids just dropped another cultural crossover bomb with their new track Ceremony – and it’s not just the music that has fans talking. The video, which racked up more than 40 million views in no time, ends with a surprise cameo: League of Legends legend Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. 
In the final scene, Faker casually delivers his iconic ‘shh’ gesture, revealed as the mastermind controlling the chaos of the sports events throughout the clip.
For anyone outside the K-pop or esports bubble, it might feel like an unusual mashup. But for fans, the connection makes perfect sense. Stray Kids have been weaving gamer culture into their artistry for years, even calling out Faker by name in their 2023 track Hall of Fame with the line about ‘the Faker who will overturn this game board.’
Formed in 2017, Stray Kids have become one of South Korea’s most dominant groups, selling millions of albums while also branching into global pop culture. Their resume is stacked: six studio albums, an original track for the Deadpool & Wolverine soundtrack, and a collaboration with Young Miko and Tom Morello for Netflix’s Arcane season 2. According to co-creator Christian Linke, the Stray Kids x Arcane link-up happened almost by chance, fueled by the fact that some members are League players themselves.
The group’s latest album, Karma, released on August 22, moved a staggering two million copies on day one. With Ceremony, Stray Kids not only reinforced their dominance in K-pop but also cemented a new bridge between two fandoms – esports and music – with Faker’s cameo acting as the perfect exclamation mark.
