Apple’s September 9 event is almost here, and all eyes are on the upcoming iPhone 17. After years of incremental tweaks, fans are expecting a true leap forward.
Here’s a look at the biggest upgrades Apple could deliver on its base model this year.
ProMotion finally comes to all models
For years, Apple kept its silky-smooth 120Hz ProMotion display locked behind the Pro series. That exclusivity may finally end, with leaks pointing to every iPhone 17 getting a 120Hz panel. Alongside it, the long-requested Always-On display could also trickle down from the premium line.
Front camera finally gets love
The iPhone’s selfie camera hasn’t seen a meaningful update since 2019. The iPhone 17 is rumored to jump to a 24MP front shooter, promising sharper selfies and more flexibility when cropping or zooming. It won’t match some Android rivals pushing 50MP, but it’s a welcome upgrade nonetheless.
Apple’s AI moment?
AI hype is everywhere, and Apple can’t ignore it this time. After overpromising and underdelivering with the iPhone 16 launch, Cupertino will need to show tangible features powered by its AI efforts – and not just marketing buzzwords.
Pricing tweaks
Leaks suggest the iPhone 17 will see a $50 increase across the board, putting the standard model at $849. Apple fans are used to premium pricing, but the baseline iPhone edging closer to $900 will certainly spark debate.
Camera Control button reimagined
Debuting with the iPhone 16, the Camera Control button was a good idea with poor execution. Its placement felt awkward. A relocation to the lower-right corner could make it the intuitive tool it was meant to be.
A19 chip power
Instead of recycling last year’s A18, Apple may put its brand-new A19 chip in every iPhone 17, with the Pro models getting an even beefier A19 Pro. Standard models are likely to stay at 8GB RAM, while higher-tier variants jump to 12GB – a nod to multitasking and AI demands.
Bigger battery dreams
Battery life has always been Apple’s magic trick: small cells, long endurance. But fans are still hoping for a larger capacity pack in the iPhone 17. Even a modest boost would be widely welcomed.
Whether Apple delivers all these changes remains to be seen, but if it does, the iPhone 17 could be the most exciting base model in years.
