AMD’s latest upscaling breakthrough, FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4), is beginning to sneak its way into games – thanks not only to official support but also to clever community tools.
While FSR 4 has only been officially integrated into a handful of titles, gamers have found workarounds to unlock its sharper visuals in older games that only support FSR 3.1.
Traditionally, enthusiasts turned to Optiscaler, which allows swapping in the new FSR libraries by copying files directly into the game folder and running batch scripts. But now, the popular DLSS Swapper utility – originally designed for replacing DLSS versions – has reportedly been used to swap FSR 3.1 with FSR 4. The method involves manually replacing DLL files, and while it’s not an official feature, at least one user has confirmed it works.
The key requirement is that the game must already support FSR 3.1, and you’ll need a Radeon RX 9000 series GPU to take advantage of FSR 4’s improvements. If those conditions are met, DLSS Swapper can provide an easier interface than Optiscaler for managing the upgrade. The community-driven approach highlights how gamers often step in where official updates lag behind.
Interestingly, even the DLSS Swapper developer admitted he didn’t expect this swap to function, yet reports suggest otherwise. For Radeon owners frustrated with the slow adoption of FSR 4, this workaround offers a welcome boost – though stability and long-term compatibility remain uncertain.
For now, this discovery underscores a recurring theme in PC gaming: when official solutions move slowly, the community finds a way. With Optiscaler already supporting the swap and DLSS Swapper potentially joining in, more players may soon be enjoying FSR 4 visuals even in games that never received official patches.
