The controversy surrounding Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has intensified after Paradox announced that two fan-favorite clans, Lasombra and Toreador, would be locked behind a day-one DLC priced at $21.99 or bundled with the $89.99 Premium Edition. The base game, set at $59.99, only offers four clans at launch – Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, and Ventrue – leaving players feeling like they are buying an incomplete experience compared to the original cult classic, which shipped with seven clans.
The backlash grew after Paradox described the move as a ‘business decision’ during gamescom 2025, sparking accusations of corporate greed.
Many fans argued that releasing content as day-one DLC is a blatant cash grab, especially since the clans were clearly developed before launch.
But now there are signs of a potential reversal. On Discord, Paradox’s community developer DebbieElla told players that the team is ‘listening to feedback’ and ‘making adjustments ahead of launch’ regarding clan access. While details remain vague, fans are hopeful the publisher will include the clans in the standard edition without additional cost. Such a shift could help repair Paradox’s image after years of frustrating DLC strategies.
The controversy highlights a bigger issue in gaming: player fatigue with publishers carving up games to maximize revenue. Longtime Paradox fans say the studio has gone from a respected name in strategy and storytelling to one more often compared with EA or Ubisoft in terms of monetization. Others lament that the World of Darkness IP – rich with lore and storytelling potential – deserves better treatment than a rollout tainted by pricing controversy.
With Bloodlines 2 already plagued by delays and development challenges, the decision on clan access could make or break its launch on October 21. If Paradox hopes to revive fan trust, rolling back the day-one DLC plan might be the only option left.

wouldn’t shock me if they ‘fix’ it by raising base price and calling it a win 😂
day1 dlc = cash grab, content already made before launch, no excuses
