Apple’s September 9 event is shaping up to be more than just an iPhone 17 showcase.
Alongside the expected iPhone lineup and Apple Watch Series 11, rumors strongly suggest that a new Apple Watch Ultra 3 will also make its debut. Apple’s rugged, high-end smartwatch is reportedly in line for its biggest refresh yet, with several noteworthy changes on the horizon.
Bigger, bezel-free display
The Ultra 3 may feature Apple’s largest watch display ever. Code found in iOS 26 hints at a 422 x 514 resolution panel, up from the Ultra 2’s 410 x 502. Apple is expected to slim down bezels rather than increase overall case size, delivering a more immersive screen without making the watch bulkier.
Faster refresh and brighter screen
Apple is expected to align the Ultra with the Series 10 by adopting the LTPO3 OLED panel, enabling smoother refresh rates and always-on watch faces with moving second hands. On top of that, the wide-angle OLED technology introduced with Series 10 could also come to the Ultra 3, boosting side-angle brightness by up to 40% compared to its predecessor.
New S11 chip
The Ultra 3 will likely debut with the new S11 processor. While Apple isn’t aiming for a dramatic performance leap, the smaller, more efficient design frees up room for bigger batteries or new sensors. Users should still expect snappier performance, improved multitasking, and more reliable health tracking.
Satellite SOS and 5G support
One of the most exciting rumors is standalone satellite connectivity. This would let Ultra 3 owners send emergency messages even without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, putting it on par with Google’s Pixel Watch satellite feature. Additionally, reports suggest Apple may switch from Qualcomm to MediaTek modems, paving the way for 5G support – something current Apple Watches still lack.
Blood pressure monitoring
Apple has been working for years to bring blood pressure tracking to its wearables, and the Ultra 3 could finally be the launchpad. The feature may initially be limited to detecting hypertension trends rather than offering precise medical readings, but it would still mark a major step forward for Apple’s health ambitions.
Price expectations
Despite rumors of higher prices for the iPhone 17, insiders claim the Ultra 3 will stick to the $799 launch price of its predecessor. That keeps it firmly positioned as a premium smartwatch for adventure seekers and pro users who want the toughest, most advanced Apple Watch available.
If these leaks prove true, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 won’t just be a minor refresh – it could become Apple’s most powerful wearable yet.
