Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is about to get a major expansion. Titled The Order of Giants, the DLC arrives September 4, 2025, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version confirmed for next year.
At Gamescom 2025, MachineGames’ Ezekiel Virant (Lead Game Designer) and Axel Torvenius (Creative Director) explained how this fresh chapter pushes Indy into uncharted ground while staying true to what fans loved.
The DLC begins in the Vatican sandbox, where players meet Father Orlando Ricci, a zealot obsessed with uncovering a secret chamber. His story quickly propels Indy beyond Vatican walls into the streets of Rome, beneath the Tiber, and through newly built environments. Unlike many expansions, nearly everything here is handcrafted from scratch – MachineGames avoided simply recycling content. Expect over 70 new collectibles, layered mysteries, and expanded journal notes for Indy’s adventures.
“From the moment you step inside, everything is freshly built,” Torvenius emphasized. Even mechanics are new. Puzzles are trickier than in the base game, designed with community feedback in mind. Virant explained that players asked for more puzzles and more challenge, and the team delivered with fresh mechanics involving rotating tools, redirection mazes, and new whip-based traversal sequences using pulleys and weights. These mechanics were designed in-office this time, not remotely during the pandemic, giving the puzzles more collaborative polish.
The DLC can be started anytime in the campaign. Whether players finished the game months ago or are midway through, fast travel ensures the new quest is easily accessible. Combat difficulty dynamically scales based on where players are in the base game: early-game adventurers get an easier ride, while endgame explorers face tougher enemies.
Length-wise, The Order of Giants runs about 5–6 hours, though completionists hunting secrets will easily spend longer. Like the base game, the expansion balances story-driven cutscenes, large and small puzzles, tense combat, set pieces, and even boss encounters. Torvenius noted it isn’t just a puzzle pack – it’s a full narrative extension with the same humor, pacing, and tone that made The Great Circle so beloved.
Visually, the expansion is at least as polished as the main game, if not better. A standout upgrade is the new RTX Hair system, which enhances fidelity not just for hair but for all fur-like details in the environments. These subtle upgrades, Torvenius said, add up to a richer overall experience.
As for the story, Gina won’t appear in this side tale, leaving Indy to solve the Vatican mystery on his own. Instead, players will meet Ricci, Father Ventura, and even Mussolini in a side adventure that digs deeper into one of the base game’s most intriguing mysteries – the secret of the giants.
For Switch 2 owners, the port is being handled internally by MachineGames, continuing their tradition after bringing Wolfenstein to Nintendo platforms. The studio wants players everywhere to enjoy Indy’s next chapter without compromise.
From the puzzles to the whip tricks, The Order of Giants is shaping up to be more than just “extra levels.” It’s a full-bodied expansion crafted with fan feedback and developer passion, giving Indiana Jones fans exactly what they asked for – more adventure, more mystery, and more Indy.
