AI image editing has reached a point where distinguishing the real from the artificial is harder than ever. In response, Samsung is taking a bold step to ensure transparency in photo manipulation.
Samsung Expands AI Photo Tracking to Older Galaxy Devices
The company is expanding its Content Credentials feature, originally launched with the Galaxy S25, to millions of older Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

This tool, now integrated directly into the native Gallery app, automatically records every AI-powered edit. Whether you use Object Eraser, Photo Assist, or other tools, the system logs details such as the device, exact date, time, and tools used. That metadata is then baked into the image itself, making it difficult to tamper with and ensuring the photo’s provenance remains intact.

The update requires Android 15 with One UI 7 and Gallery app version 15.6.04.2. Once installed, edited photos will display a small icon labeled “Contains AI-generated content.” Tapping it reveals a detailed breakdown of every change applied. It’s an effort not just by Samsung but part of a broader global push by the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), backed by Adobe, Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI.

The goal is simple: in an era where misinformation spreads in seconds, people deserve to know if a photo has been digitally altered. Samsung’s approach could help set a standard across the industry. Google is reportedly working on a similar feature for Google Photos, which may soon display a “How was this made” section in photo details, adding even more clarity for users navigating the blurred line between real and AI-made imagery.

As AI photo editing continues to evolve, Samsung’s expansion of Content Credentials signals an important step toward accountability – making it harder for fake images to pass as authentic.
