Huawei Mate XTs: A More Affordable Tri-Fold That Might Beat Samsung on Price

Huawei is gearing up to make another splash in the foldable market with its upcoming Mate XTs, the successor to the Mate XT Ultimate Design. The company is positioning it as a more affordable option compared to its predecessor, which launched at a staggering €3,500 (around $4,100) for international markets.

According to recent reports, the new Mate XTs could be priced at 15,000 yuan (~$2,100) in China, potentially undercutting its rivals by a wide margin if that pricing holds up.

At 10.2 inches, the Mate XTs isn’t just another foldable phone – it’s more of a pocket-sized tablet, dwarfing the 8-inch displays on most “traditional” foldables like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold. For comparison, the Z Fold 7 starts at $1,999 while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is $1,799, though it runs thicker and packs Google’s Tensor G5 instead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite that Samsung’s device boasts.

Huawei, however, is betting big on the value proposition: for just a couple hundred dollars more than Samsung’s book-style foldable, buyers could get a much larger screen. The catch? International buyers will likely pay more than $2,100 once shipping, taxes, and Huawei’s lack of native Google services are factored in. And let’s not forget – without access to cutting-edge Snapdragon chips, performance won’t rival Samsung or Oppo flagships. Still, exclusivity has its own appeal: owning a tri-fold Mate XTs would make you part of an elite 1% club.

Details on hardware upgrades remain scarce. Rumors point to improved cameras, a refined design, and a stronger chipset, but Huawei hasn’t confirmed anything yet. The Mate XTs is expected to debut in September 2025. If the price leak is accurate, the most exciting upgrade might just be the fact that this tri-fold won’t cost you the price of a used car.
