Nintendo fans are buzzing with anticipation as reports suggest a new Nintendo Direct is set to air in September.

This comes after a string of presentations over the past few months highlighting third-party titles and individual game features, like the recent deep dive on Kirby Air Riders.

The potential broadcast is particularly exciting due to ongoing questions surrounding some of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. Chief among them is the release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Initially slated for 2025, the game has remained largely under wraps since the full unveiling of the Switch 2 earlier this year. With fans eager for updates, the September Direct could be the perfect opportunity to showcase progress and quell fears of further delays.

Adding to the hype is the upcoming 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. Nintendo previously celebrated the 35th anniversary with the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, Super Mario Bros. 35, and the opening of the first Super Nintendo World theme park. This milestone opens the door for potential re-releases or new 3D Mario adventures, and perhaps even an early glimpse at Switch 2’s next major Mario installment. Fans will also be keeping an eye on the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel in the coming year.

Historically, Nintendo has favored September for major Directs, with only a few exceptions. Should this trend continue, we could see a full lineup reveal that includes updates on Metroid Prime 4, anniversary celebrations, and upcoming Switch 2 titles.

Looking ahead, the Switch 2 release schedule for 2025 is shaping up with Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World hitting on August 28, followed by Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on October 16, and Kirby Air Riders on November 20. Whether Metroid Prime 4 will make a surprise September appearance or arrive closer to the holiday season remains the biggest question for fans.
