Squanch Games is doubling down on absurdity with High on Life 2, pushing its bizarre mix of sci-fi shooter, comedy, and hidden surprises even further.
During gamescom 2025, studio leads Mikey Spano and Matty Studivan revealed that the sequel won’t just pack in more talking weapons and eccentric characters, but also a set of fully-emulated retro games buried within its universe.
The headline inclusion? An officially licensed version of the notorious NES oddity Bible Adventures. Spano confirmed players will be able to run through the entire game, making it one of several ‘90s throwbacks tucked away inside the sequel. In fact, the team promises “more than five” full games are waiting to be uncovered – though they’re keeping the rest of the list secret for now.
The first game already surfaced in a demo, where Senator Muppy Doo (voiced by Richard Kind) invades the player’s menu, only to reveal the hidden cartridge. According to Spano, this won’t be the only strange surprise, as Squanch has also snuck in “B+ tier movies” to keep fans entertained when they aren’t blasting aliens or arguing with sarcastic guns.
This builds on the legacy of the original High on Life, which famously allowed players to watch full-length schlock films while taking a break from the chaos. The sequel, however, leans harder into nostalgia gaming, promising an offbeat museum of interactive oddities alongside its expanded cast and storyline.
High on Life 2 is scheduled to launch February 13, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass. With a bigger adventure, more guns with opinions, and a library of cult curios hidden inside, it’s shaping up to be one of the strangest shooters on the horizon.
