Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be expanding with free content later this year. The announcement was made at the Esports World Cup 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, putting to rest earlier rumors that hinted at a possible DLC backed by Savvy Games Group.
Instead of a paid add-on, players can expect a significant free update in 2025.
The new chapter will transport players beyond Baghdad, where the base game was set, to the ancient oasis city of al-Ula in Saudi Arabia’s Medina Province. Known for its breathtaking landscapes and historical heritage, al-Ula provides the backdrop for fresh missions and a continuation of the Mirage story. Alongside the new location, Ubisoft is also rolling out gameplay improvements to refine the base experience.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage originally launched on October 5, 2023, and was praised for bringing the franchise back to its stealth-driven roots. Critics highlighted its concise campaign – lasting 12 to 15 hours – balanced with a wide range of side activities, including contracts, hidden storylines, and a wealth of collectibles. Unlike its RPG-heavy predecessors, Mirage opts for a more traditional Assassin’s Creed style, rewarding players with skill points and upgrade materials instead of leveling systems.
Despite its somewhat dated visuals and conservative mechanics, Mirage won over players with its tightly crafted map, engaging narrative, and mission variety. Review scores reflected that sentiment, with Wccftech’s Nathan Birch awarding it an 8 out of 10, noting that while the game may not dazzle at first glance, it delivers a sharp, compact experience that still leaves a lasting impression.
With a new chapter in al-Ula and free updates on the horizon, Assassin’s Creed Mirage looks set to sharpen its hidden blade once again in 2025.
