Xiaomi has introduced a new member to its affordable smartphone lineup, and it comes with a familiar twist. The Redmi 15 5G, which is already making waves in India, has been launched in China under a new name – the Redmi 15R.

Despite the different branding, the two devices are identical, sharing the same design and specifications.

The Redmi 15R/15 5G sports a large 6.9-inch Full HD+ LCD panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. The bezels are on the chunkier side, but the high refresh rate aims to make up for it. Under the hood, Xiaomi has opted for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset, paired with HyperOS 2. The company promises two years of OS updates and four years of security patches, aligning with industry standards for mid-range phones.

One of the standout features is the huge 7,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, a rarity in this price bracket. It supports 33W fast charging (with the charger included in most markets) and also 18W reverse wired charging. Xiaomi claims the battery will still retain around 80% capacity even after more than four years of daily use – a big selling point for long-term buyers.

Photography is handled by a 50MP rear camera, while the phone also comes with IP64 dust and splash resistance and Dolby-certified audio. These additions help it stand out in the budget segment, where such extras aren’t always guaranteed.

As for pricing, the Redmi 15 is set to go on sale in India on August 28, starting at INR 14,999 for the 6GB+128GB model, INR 15,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant, and INR 16,999 for the 8GB+256GB option. Meanwhile, Chinese buyers can pick up the Redmi 15R at CNY 1,499 (~$210) for the 8GB+256GB model, CNY 1,899 (~$265) for the 12GB+256GB version, and CNY 2,199 (~$305) for the top 12GB+512GB variant. Affordable pricing combined with strong specs makes the Redmi 15R/15 5G one of the most compelling options in the entry-to-mid range segment this year.
