Ubisoft isn’t letting Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 fade quietly. At gamescom 2025, the publisher revealed The Division 2: Survivors, a fresh survival-extraction mode that marks the return of Magnus Jansén, the original creative director of The Division. After years away, Jansén is back to reimagine the fan-favorite survival concept from the first game, promising not just a revival but something distinctly new.

“It’s more than a remake,” Jansén explained during the panel. “Those who loved the original survival mode will feel right at home, but we’re layering in new ideas – and the clue to the biggest twist is in the name itself.” Beyond teasing this cryptic hint, details remain scarce, with Survivors still in early development and no release date confirmed. Ubisoft’s roadmap lists it as TBA, meaning late 2026 is likely the earliest window.

Concept art shown at the event depicted bleak wintery streets and tense extraction setups, signaling that the studio is leaning into the desperate, cold survival tone fans have long wanted back. Executive producer Julian Gerighty emphasized that transparency and community involvement are central: “This is as much your baby as it is ours. We want you along for the development journey.”

Alongside Survivors, Ubisoft also provided updates on its free-to-play mobile RPG MMO, The Division Resurgence. Set in a post-Division 1 Manhattan, Resurgence aims to bridge the narrative gap between the first two games. Closed testing begins in September for iOS and Android players. Ubisoft is also pushing its Elite Task Force program, a chance for hardcore fans to directly guide the future of the franchise.

Meanwhile, The Division 2 continues ticking with new seasonal content. The next chapter, The Pact, drops September 9, 2025, keeping agents busy until Survivors eventually lands. Whether this survival extraction spin can rekindle the franchise’s fire remains to be seen, but bringing back Jansén suggests Ubisoft is serious about winning over long-time fans craving something deeper than endgame grind.
