Poncle, the indie team that turned Vampire Survivors into an award-winning cult hit, just pulled off another surprise at Gamescom 2025.
The studio revealed and instantly launched its next published project: Kill the Brickman, a wild mix of brick-breaker chaos and roguelike deckbuilding created by Doonutsaur.
The reveal trailer didn’t waste time with teasers – it showed gameplay and then ended by flashing a pile of Steam codes on screen. Those were gone in seconds, of course. If you missed out, the game is still dirt cheap: just $4.49 during launch week (10% off until August 28, 2025), before it settles at $4.99 USD / €4.99 / £3.99.
But calling it just a brick-breaker undersells it. Poncle describes it as a “turn-based, roguelike bullet builder from outer space”. Director Luca Galante openly admitted he fell in love with the quirky concept as soon as he saw it arrive by email. “Yes, this is true. I love Bricks. Kill the Brickman is not only a brilliant deckbuilder, it’s also one of the strangest ones I’ve ever played. And that’s a good thing.”
The strangeness is part of the charm – like Vampire Survivors before it, this game leans into bizarre mechanics and over-the-top ideas. For less than the cost of a fancy coffee, players on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S can dive in today. PlayStation or Nintendo ports haven’t been announced, but the door remains open.
Kill the Brickman feels like another gamble that only Poncle could make: oddball, addictive, and maybe genius.
