Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is shaping up to be one of the most comprehensive bundles in the franchise’s history, bringing back classics that have been nearly impossible to play for decades. Warner Bros.
Interactive Entertainment and Digital Eclipse confirmed the final lineup, and fans are buzzing about some long-requested additions.
The headline announcement is the return of Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat Special Forces, two PlayStation-era spin-offs that have lived in cult status, often discussed but never re-released until now. Love them or hate them, their inclusion closes a big gap in the preservation of the Midway-era MK universe.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is the resurrection of the elusive WaveNet edition of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, which hasn’t been playable since 1997. Originally designed for Midway’s short-lived arcade online service, this unique build allowed players to select Noob Saibot in arcades for the first time. Thanks to Digital Eclipse, it’s now preserved and available to a modern audience for the very first time.
On top of that, the collection includes Mortal Kombat Trilogy, optimized for modern hardware with faster load times and smoother performance. New quality-of-life features like a Rewind function, on-screen move lists, and a Trainer mode (including a Fatality Trainer) are designed to make both casual play and hardcore combo practice more approachable.
The digital edition launches in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Physical editions arrive on December 12, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
While the lineup is strong, fans are already debating what’s missing. Titles like Shaolin Monks, Deadly Alliance, and Deception didn’t make the cut, leaving some hopeful that a Legacy Kollection 2 might someday round out the PlayStation 2 era of Mortal Kombat.
Whether you’re here for nostalgia, obscure gems like Special Forces, or finally trying the mythical WaveNet UMK3, this collection is shaping up to be one of the definitive archives of the series’ golden years.
