Google has officially launched the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL, but for many, the excitement feels muted. On the surface, the new Pixels look nearly identical to last year’s lineup, with the familiar visor design and camera trio intact.

The real story lies beneath the glass: the debut of Google’s Tensor G5 chip, a switch to TSMC fabrication, and support for the new Pixelsnap magnetic charging system.

The Pixel 10 Pro sports a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED with 1,280 × 2,856px resolution, while the XL stretches to 6.8 inches at 1,344 × 2,992px. Both push up to 120Hz refresh rate and reach 3,300 nits peak brightness under Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Inside, every model comes with 16GB RAM as standard, paired with the Titan M2 security chip. The 42MP selfie cam and ultrasonic fingerprint sensor are embedded under the display.

The Tensor G5 claims to be 34% faster than the G4, with AI tasks boosted by 60% – and it is the first chip to run Google’s Gemini Nano AI model. That should, in theory, bring Pixel performance closer to Snapdragon-powered flagships. Still, skepticism remains among fans waiting to see real-world benchmarks.

Camera hardware remains unchanged: a 50MP main, 48MP ultrawide, and 48MP telephoto offering 5x optical zoom and up to 100x hybrid. Video recording maxes at 8K/30fps. While Google continues to rely on software magic, many users expected fresh camera sensors for the brand’s 10th anniversary phone.

Battery life sees a small bump: 4,870 mAh on the Pro with 30W wired charging and 5,200 mAh on the XL with 45W. Both now support Qi2 wireless charging – 15W on the Pro, 25W on the XL – paired with Pixelsnap magnetic accessories. Pricing starts at $999/€1,099/£999 for the Pro and $1,199/€1,299/£1,199 for the Pro XL. Deliveries begin August 28.

While Google promises 7 years of OS and security updates with Android 16 and the new Material 3 Expressive UI, reactions are split. Some praise the cleaner fabrication and wireless charging upgrades, but others see the Pixel 10 Pro series as an overpriced Pixel 9 refresh rather than a true leap forward. For a 10th anniversary launch, critics argue the hardware deserved more ambition.
