Apple moves away from titanium
The iPhone 17 will reportedly ship without titanium, ending a short-lived era of sleek, durable builds that looked and felt ultra-premium. While titanium wasn’t an essential feature, it certainly helped distinguish Apple’s flagship line and gave it a design edge over rivals.
The decision feels especially strange considering how Apple hyped titanium during the iPhone 15 Pro launch. Presenters couldn’t stop praising the finish, highlighting it as a breakthrough in both style and engineering. Many users, myself included, agreed it elevated the iPhone’s design language. And now-suddenly-it’s gone.
For fans of luxury design, this move stings. Titanium sounded cooler than stainless steel or aluminum, and it gave the iPhone an identity boost. With this change, Apple risks making its flagship devices feel a little less special. Unless Samsung decides to drop titanium too, the Galaxy S26 Ultra might soon be the only premium phone carrying that futuristic sheen.
