The search for the next James Bond has entered a new and intriguing phase. With Denis Villeneuve confirmed as director and Steven Knight penning the script, rumors are circling harder than ever about who will step into the iconic tux.
The latest name whispered through Hollywood corridors is Scott Rose-Marsh, a 37-year-old English actor who reportedly screen-tested for the role in late June.
Rose-Marsh, best known for small roles in Wolves of War, Krays: Code of Silence, and TV shows like Chloe and The Outlaws, might not be a household name, but he brings something genuinely new to the table. He’s a redhead-something no big-screen Bond has ever been. While Daniel Craig broke the mold as the first blond 007, Rose-Marsh could follow as the first ginger, echoing Patrick Gibson’s turn as Bond in the recent video game 007: First Light. His scar over his right eye, combined with a leaner, sharper look developed in recent years, has also fueled speculation that he fits a tougher, more rugged take on Bond.
According to sources, Rose-Marsh’s screen test included reading sides from GoldenEye while being told one thing: don’t impersonate past Bonds. That directive, plus Villeneuve’s signature precision, suggests producers are after a fresh spin rather than a repeat performance.
Rose-Marsh’s story is almost as surprising as the rumor itself. Only a few years ago he was working in a call center, before landing roles during the pandemic. Despite often being cast as villains due to his intense looks, he insists he’s nothing like the “bad guys” he portrays, joking that it’s just his face that gets him those gigs.
Of course, a screen test doesn’t equal a final casting. He might not land Bond at all, and perhaps was auditioning for a different role. Still, Villeneuve’s involvement alone has fans buzzing, and Rose-Marsh’s unusual profile-red hair, a scar, and relative obscurity-has sparked both skepticism and curiosity. As with Daniel Craig before Casino Royale, sometimes it’s the unexpected picks that leave the biggest mark.
