Harada Says Tekken 8 on Switch 2 Would Take Major Effort

A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Tekken 8 isn’t impossible, but it’s also far from a sure thing. Game Director Katsuhiro Harada addressed the topic at Evo 2025, telling Eurogamer that while the idea is “not totally off the table,” the port would require significant development work to run smoothly on Nintendo’s hardware. From a business perspective, Harada acknowledged the Switch 2’s strong sales make it an attractive platform, but the sheer effort needed for optimization makes the decision complicated.

For now, there’s nothing official to announce.

It’s a curious stance, especially for a fighting game built on Unreal Engine 5-a technology the Switch 2 already supports. Other developers have managed to bring more technically demanding titles, such as Cyberpunk 2077, to Nintendo’s latest system. This has fueled speculation that the hesitation isn’t purely technical but financial: historically, many third-party titles sell poorly on Nintendo consoles compared to first-party blockbusters. Street Fighter 6, released on Switch 2 at launch, has been a rare success story for Capcom, suggesting that day-one release parity could make a difference.

Some argue that late ports risk alienating Nintendo’s player base, which often rejects games that arrive years after other platforms. In contrast, when given equal footing, certain multiplatform releases have even outsold Xbox or, in some cases, PlayStation versions on Nintendo systems. Still, the reality is that fighting games-outside of Smash Bros.-traditionally underperform on the platform, which may make the return on investment questionable for Bandai Namco.

In the meantime, Tekken 8 continues to grow. At Evo 2025, Bandai Namco announced that Armor King will join the roster on October 13 for Season 2 Character Pass holders and October 16 for all players. Later this winter, a brand-new fighter, Miary Zo from Madagascar, will debut alongside a new stage, Baobab Horizon, expanding the game’s global flair.
