Samsung is stepping up its game with the Odyssey OLED G6, a 27-inch monitor boasting a jaw-dropping 500Hz refresh rate and a lightning-fast 0.03ms response time.
The new display, along with two other G7 curved models, is priced at $999.99, available on both Samsung’s website and Amazon.
But wait, doesn’t Samsung already have an Odyssey OLED G6 with a 360Hz refresh rate? Yes, they do-and it’s actually $100 cheaper. There’s also an even cheaper 240Hz version. So, what’s the deal with the 500Hz model? Well, let’s be real, 500Hz sounds more impressive, but does it really make a difference in gaming performance? Likely not, especially since all three versions offer the same QHD (2560×1440) resolution, HDR10+ support, and dual HDMI 2.1 ports.
The real standout here is the increased brightness of the new model-300 nits versus the older model’s 250-and VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 certification. It’s also Pantone Validated for more accurate colors and skin tones, which might make it look better than the previous version, but unless you’re comparing them side-by-side, it’s hard to say.
Samsung also includes RGB lighting at the back, and the same array of ports: two HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 1.4, two USB-A, a USB-B, and a headphone jack. The Auto Source Switch+ feature is also included, automatically switching inputs when it detects another device coming online.
On top of that, the OLED G6 is mounted on a height-and-tilt-adjustable stand, which can pivot and swivel-just like the previous model. As for the new G7 curved monitors, Samsung has released 37-inch ($899.99) and 40-inch ($1,199.99) versions. These monitors come with VA panels, 1000R curvature, 1ms response time, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification. They also support HDR10+ Gaming and have a brightness of 350 nits.
The G7s differ in size, resolution, and refresh rate. The 37-inch has a 165Hz refresh rate and a 3840×2160 resolution, while the 40-inch features a 180Hz refresh rate and a 5120×2160 resolution in a 21:9 aspect ratio. Whether you’re after a sleek 27-inch display or a massive curved model, Samsung’s new Odyssey lineup has something for everyone.
