vivo is gearing up to join the mixed reality race with its upcoming vivo Vision MR headset, which was recently previewed at the Boao Forum for Asia.
Although still under wraps, a few lucky testers have had hands-on time, and the early buzz centers around comfort and lightness.
According to vivo product manager Han Boxiao, the Vision headset feels extremely light on the head, drawing comparisons to the Apple AirPods Max in terms of weight balance. While the AirPods Max tip the scales at 386g, they’re still considerably lighter than the 600–650g Apple Vision Pro, meaning vivo’s MR device could offer a far more neck-friendly experience for extended use.
Among the testers was CCTV host Zhu Guangquan, who didn’t spill many technical details but gave us a solid first look through a series of photos. The images reveal a sleek design with a cable running from the headset to an external battery pack – a smart choice to keep the main unit’s weight minimal. Short video clips also showcased its advanced hand tracking controls powered by multiple front-facing cameras, hinting at a highly immersive, controller-free experience.
While there’s no confirmed launch date yet, Zhu hinted that the Vision will be arriving “soon,” and sources suggest an official unveiling before the year’s end. With internal testing in full swing, vivo appears set to make a bold entry into the MR space – even if some feel the design plays it a little safe.
