iPhone travelers heading to Latin America now have a new reason to relax when it comes to their luggage.
LATAM Airlines, the largest carrier group in the region, has officially embraced Apple’s AirTag tracking system, making lost-bag recovery smoother and faster.
Apple’s AirTag has already proven to be a lifesaver for travelers, bridging the gap between what passengers know and what airline systems often fail to show. The panic of arriving in Rio de Janeiro – or any faraway destination – without knowing where your suitcase is could soon be a thing of the past for LATAM passengers.
Thanks to iOS 18.2’s Share Item Location feature, AirTag owners can now share their tracker’s location link directly with LATAM staff via the airline’s self-service portal. This partnership, supported by a baggage solutions provider, covers flights within Brazil and across South America.
The process is straightforward: once you’ve filed a baggage delay report and have a case number, simply open Apple’s Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, enable location sharing for your AirTag, and generate a link. Paste this link into LATAM’s portal under “Manage existing report,” and the airline can start tracking alongside you. The shared link expires after seven days, stops automatically when your bag is found, and can be ended manually anytime.
LATAM now joins 29 other airlines worldwide – including Air Canada, American Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic – in officially supporting the feature, enabling passengers to work with carriers in real time to locate missing baggage.
While AirTags can interact with Android devices via NFC or Apple’s Tracker Detect app, full functionality, including live tracking and precision finding, remains exclusive to Apple’s ecosystem. Android users looking for similar tracking should consider alternatives like Tile.
