Google Calendar is getting a sleek, expressive update with the new Material 3 design, making the app more visually appealing and easier to use. If you think about it, Google Calendar might just be the most powerful dating tool in your phone – but not in the way apps like Tinder or eHarmony work.

No, it’s because no app offers you as many dates as Google Calendar does. And now, the Android version of Google Calendar is getting its own Material 3 Expressive makeover.

While some of the changes are subtle, they stand out in the Month view. The days are now separated by smooth, rounded corners, replacing the previous straight-line look. Plus, the new Dynamic Color feature brings in colors inspired by your phone’s wallpaper, making the calendar feel more personal. The days of the week are now abbreviated for a cleaner look, especially when the names take up too much space.

In the Day view, the update adds defined containers for time slots, making them more noticeable. This is a big improvement over the older, thin lines that were sometimes hard to see. The background uses a primary shade of Dynamic Color, which adapts to the wallpaper color of your device, adding a touch of customization.

However, not everything is changing. The Agenda View (or Schedule view, depending on your device) hasn’t received an update. You can still access it by tapping the hamburger menu on the top left and selecting Schedule. This section shows your upcoming events, tasks, and schedules, with the background color still influenced by the Dynamic Color feature.

The new Material 3 Expressive design is being rolled out through a server-side update to version 2025.30.x. While my Pixel 6 Pro running Android 16 QPR1 Beta has the latest version of Google Calendar, it hasn’t yet received the visual overhaul. This suggests that Google needs to activate the redesign via a server-side update. To check which version of Google Calendar you have, go to Settings > Apps > See all apps, scroll to Calendar, and tap on it. At the bottom of the ‘App info’ page, you’ll find the version number listed.
