James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios, has put the rumors to rest: Robin will not be appearing in The Batman 2. Following speculation that Robin might be included in the Robert Pattinson-led sequel, Gunn took to social media to clarify the situation.

The rumors initially spread after a report by Jeff Sneider, who claimed to have insights into the script. This rumor quickly gained traction, with fans hoping to see The Boy Wonder in the gritty Gotham of Matt Reeves’ Batman universe.

However, Gunn was quick to shut down the idea, calling the rumor “nonsense” on his Threads account. He pointed out that only a handful of people, himself included, have read the completed script, which was turned in by Reeves and writer Mattson Tomlin. “Guys, please stop believing this nonsense,” Gunn said. “I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about The Batman 2.”

The Batman 2 script was turned in on June 27, 2025, almost three years after the release of the first film. With such a highly anticipated project, it makes sense that the script is tightly controlled and seen by very few people. Gunn’s statement has now doused any hope of Robin’s appearance in the upcoming movie, though some fans remain skeptical about the future of the character in the Reeves universe.

Interestingly, while Gunn has firmly denied any Robin appearance, he has also hinted at other DC projects involving the character. The upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie, set in the larger DC Universe, will feature Damian Wayne, Batman’s son and another iteration of Robin. This might be the version of Robin that fits more comfortably in Gunn’s vision of the DCU, where a different tone and aesthetic are at play. Gunn has even joked that Batman is currently his “biggest issue” in the DC Universe due to the number of different Batmans in the works.

The Batman 2 is still scheduled for release on October 1, 2027, but with the script under wraps and no confirmation about the storyline or characters, fans will have to wait a while for further updates. For now, it looks like Robin will remain a distant hope for Reeves’ darker, more grounded Batman universe.
