Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is just weeks away from release, bringing a full remake of the beloved 2004 classic to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on August 28.
However, fans eager to try its brand-new multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, will need to wait a bit longer. Konami confirmed that Fox Hunt will arrive in a free post-launch update sometime this fall, though no exact date has been given.
First announced in June, Fox Hunt is a fresh take on online multiplayer for the Metal Gear series – entirely separate from the classic Metal Gear Online that debuted with MGS4 back in 2008. Unlike MGO’s gun-heavy skirmishes, Fox Hunt aims to embrace the franchise’s signature stealth and survival elements, with gameplay centered on camouflage, misdirection, and what director Yu Sahara calls “hide-and-seek taken to the next level.”
Sahara explained that the team didn’t simply want to revive MGO, but to create something unique for today’s gaming landscape. The result is a mode designed to be more than just a shootout, rewarding players who favor tactics over trigger fingers.
While the multiplayer will take some time to arrive, the main single-player campaign – a faithful yet visually overhauled retelling of Snake’s mission in the Cold War jungle – will be ready at launch. Still, the absence of series creator Hideo Kojima has left some long-time fans cautious, with debates already brewing over whether the remake can capture the same magic as the original.
Whether you’re here for stealth-based online showdowns or just want to relive Snake Eater’s story, Delta looks set to spark conversation when it finally drops.
